Zanatorian Steel Scorpions by Proiteus Zanatorian Steel Scorpions by Proiteus
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT FAV MY DEVIATION WITHOUT A COMMENT, I GREATLY PREFER COMMENTS THAT FAVS!

A few months ago when I was struggling to come up with a suitable (and cheap) model to represent a Necron Warrior ‘Wordbearer’ came up with the concept of a spider like robot: [link] [link] Not bad for an Imperial dog :D

I loved it as it reminded me of the ‘Tachikoma’ robots from a favourite anime series of mine called ‘Ghost In The Shell’. But then another obstacle for the project appeared which were the 5th edition rules. This caused me to ditch the spider robot because with the true line of sight rules a robot that short would be a nuisance for both me and my opponent.

Until now… All the models so far were coming out well but I was beginning to have my doubts about the Interceptors model: [link] They were a pain to paint to a good standard and some Forgeworld stuff have the worst mould lines ever, which on a model this small is a problem. This made me reluctant to use them. Then I remember Wordbearer’s spider design. So I sat down with some bits and a new robot appeared…

‘The Steel Scorpion!’ Overall it looked fantastic and was kind of cute due to its small size; however I could only fit two to a base.
The way it works in regards to the scarab’s jet bike movement is it’s ability to jump great distances making it very agile allowing it to get where it’s need quickly. Kind of like these robots but without the webbing: [link]

Now I’ll let the people decide on whether I go for the Interceptors or the Steel Scorpions?

Well cool design and about those little guys well, go with Steel Scorpions, it both sounds better and is actually fitting when you think about their appearance and it's what an enemy would call them.

Not gonna lie, that's pretty impressive.
So you sculpted that on your own?

Wow, nice work man, I'm quite impressed with how these turned out, although you still could make them look a bit cooler I think (ie: it needs a thorax.).

And nice shout out to my dogmatic attempts to bring you back into the Imperial fold. Embrace the Imperial Truth or die bitch! :)

Yeah, its become difficult to justify their presence in the army list though since only have enough pts for 3 or 4 bases.

They remind me of Tachikoma as well....very small ones, but that's not the point. Love the design. I'm not familiar with the unit they're supposed to represent in the Necron army though.

They're representing Scarabs, think of tyranid rippers with a WS of 2 and 5+ save plus jetbike movement and you've got them.

Ahhh, ok. you mentioned some sort of Necron Warrior in the description and that threw me off. As it was early and I was tired....and don't play Necrons anyways.

Steel scorpions for the scarab swarm, interceptors as add-ons for character models. I really like the design of the scorpions, you coud even manage to put 3 on a base if they were overlaping somehow.

As fot the interceptors.... dunno, they're cool, but they're a b!ch to make due to their extremley small size...

Well it'd be hard to explain. It's a skill that took 11 years to fully develop, the first 6 being mastering the basics of modelling after that I then began to get creative.

Look throught my gallery at some of my first submitted models and you'll see the progression.
